Seven Latin American cities pioneering climate insurance with Urban Infrastructure Insurance Facility (UIIF)

Summary

Cities in Latin America and the Caribbean are highly vulnerable to natural disasters, with rapid urbanization and climate change exacerbating risks for millions. To address this, seven cities have joined the Urban Infrastructure Insurance Facility (UIIF), an initiative developing innovative climate insurance solutions to help them assess risks and secure financial protection. This project, funded by KfW, is currently in progress with participating cities undergoing risk assessments to tailor insurance products and build resilience against future climate impacts.
