Vulnerable communities in Kenya, particularly those in arid and semi-arid areas, face significant challenges from climate change, exacerbated by water deficits. The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has responded by developing an Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF) for its Adaptation Fund-approved 'Integrated Programme to Build Resilience to Climate Change & Adaptive Capacity of Vulnerable Communities in Kenya' (KCCAP). This framework establishes detailed procedures for screening, assessing, and mitigating potential environmental and social risks during project implementation. The ESMF is currently a draft document and represents a crucial prerequisite for the full implementation of the approved and funded KCCAP.
