High-Fidelity Analysis of EV Integration on Real Utility Feeders in Colorado
Summary
Residential EV charging poses a significant challenge to distribution grid planning and operations by altering load characteristics. This study by NREL and Xcel Energy in Colorado developed and evaluated smart charging control methods and created a software tool, EVI-DiST, to analyze and manage the impacts of increasing EV loads on utility feeders. The project is completed, providing solutions for more reliable grid interconnection and increased affordability of EV charging for both utilities and customers.
