Summary

The European Union faces a significant challenge in meeting its ambitious climate targets, including a 55% reduction in GHG emissions by 2030 and climate neutrality by 2050, as current energy efficiency efforts are insufficient. In response, the European Parliament and Council have completed the recasting of the Energy Efficiency Directive. This legislative act aims to substantially increase the Union's energy efficiency target for 2030 and firmly integrate the "energy efficiency first" principle throughout all sectors and policy-making.
