The UK faces a challenge in decarbonizing its heat supply, as current heat networks largely rely on high-carbon sources and market growth is hampered by high costs and investment risks. To address this, the government established the Green Heat Network Fund (GHNF) as a core component of its Heat Network Transformation Programme, providing capital grants to support the commercialization and construction of low-carbon heat networks in England and Wales. This scheme is currently in progress, with an interim evaluation assessing its design and early impacts, and further funding committed through 2027/28.
