Summary

Kenya faces the challenge of providing electricity to marginalized areas where grid extension is costly. The Kenya Off-Grid Solar Access Project (KOSAP), a Kshs 9.4 billion initiative with the World Bank, is addressing this by building 113 off-grid solar mini-grids and deploying stand-alone solar systems in 14 underserved counties. The project is in progress, with contracts signed and sites being prepared, and has already seen 153,000 solar systems sold, connecting 800,000 people, demonstrating early success in improving quality of life and fostering economic activity.
