Summary

The CoCO2 project addresses the critical challenge of accurately quantifying fossil fuel CO2 emissions from space, which requires extremely high precision from satellite data. It is developing a prototype system for a Copernicus CO2 service by leveraging existing satellite instruments like OCO-2 and OCO-3, and planning for the future CO2M constellation. The project is currently in progress, having already exceeded initial expectations for emission estimation using non-dedicated instruments, showing promising low bias despite high random noise in current data.
