NREL’s 1MW Water Electrolysis Stack Performance Validation to Pilot-Scale Renewable Natural Gas Production

Summary

The U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is addressing the challenge of scaling up advanced hydrogen production and renewable natural gas (RNG) from biowaste. NREL validates next-generation electrolyzer stacks at MW-scale for industry partners and develops mobile integrated research platforms (MIERA) to advance biomethanation. The work is currently in progress, with multiple manufacturers utilizing NREL's validation facilities and pilot projects underway to achieve continuous RNG production.
