Electromagnetic Transient Modeling of Large Data Centers for Grid-Level Studies

Summary

The increasing scale and complexity of large data centers are significantly impacting power grid operations, necessitating better modeling tools for grid operators. To address this, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) has developed an alpha version of the data center model library (DML), which provides electromagnetic transient (EMT) models for grid-level studies of data centers. These generic models aim to simplify the creation of site-specific analyses and foster industry consensus, with an alpha release anticipated in December 2025.
