Globally, plastic emissions are continuously increasing, causing environmental, social, and economic damage and threatening human lives. This document proposes strengthening the role of science and technology as a key means to transform the entire life cycle of plastics into a circular structure and manage it comprehensively, in response to the upcoming international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution by 2024. South Korea is actively engaging in this process, with R&D investments focusing on production and recycling, while further strategic development and stakeholder cooperation are deemed crucial for establishing a circular economy.
