Transforming ENERGY through SUSTAINABLE Mobility Guanajuato Policy Options for Land Transportation Greenhouse Gas Reduction
Summary
NREL provided technical assistance to the Mexican state of Guanajuato to develop policy options for reducing land transportation greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. After stakeholder workshops, NREL prioritized five policies: a paid parking strategy, a regional transit master plan, expanded bike and pedestrian infrastructure, partnering with Transportation Network Companies (TNCs), and an EVSE master plan. These combined policies are projected to reduce Guanajuato's land transportation GHG emissions by 39.3% below business-as-usual levels by 2050, saving a total of 22.7 million metric tonnes of GHG. For example, paid parking alone is estimated to contribute a 27.0% reduction in 2050, while the regional transit master plan adds 16.9%.
