2024 Photovoltaic Inverter Reliability Workshop Summary Report & Proceedings

Summary

The widespread adoption of photovoltaic (PV) energy is hampered by the persistent issue of PV inverter reliability, characterized by short operational lifespans and warranty periods. To tackle this critical challenge, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) hosted a workshop bringing together diverse stakeholders to establish working partnerships and define key priorities for improving inverter reliability over the next five years and beyond. The effort is currently in progress, with the workshop identifying crucial next steps such as breaking down repair barriers, developing a collective knowledge forum, and leveraging data for better understanding of inverter performance.
