The approach involved optimizing the Algaewheel wastewater treatment system for increased algal biomass productivity and improving bio-oil conversion through hydrothermal liquefaction and nanofiltration. The project successfully demonstrated an economically feasible system, achieving a negative minimum fuel selling price of -$9.45/gge, significantly exceeding productivity and conversion yield goals, and reducing wastewater treatment costs and global warming potential.
