COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION (EU) 2024/2395 of 2 September 2024 setting out guidelines for the interpretation of Article 26 of Directive (EU) 2023/1791 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards the heating and cooling supply

Summary

The European Union aims to significantly reduce energy consumption and fossil fuel use in its heating and cooling sector, where only 24.9% of energy currently comes from renewables. To achieve this, the Commission has issued a recommendation providing interpretative guidelines for Member States on Article 26 of Directive (EU) 2023/1791, which sets new requirements for heating and cooling supply and efficient district heating and cooling. This initiative is currently in progress, as Member States work towards transposing the directive by October 2025.
