Brazil faces the challenge of systematically mapping its oil and gas resources to inform national energy planning. The EPE's National Zoning of Oil and Gas Resources (ZNMT) is an ongoing biennial study that addresses this by providing a georeferenced information base and maps showing the relative importance of different areas for oil and gas development, considering geological and economic factors. The 2019-2021 cycle of this study, which focuses on 23 key basins, is in progress and produces essential data for medium and long-term production projections within the country's energy expansion plans.
