South Korea faces a challenge in effectively utilizing its science and technology (S&T) workforce, with a significant portion of S&T graduates working in non-S&T occupations, alongside changing job market dynamics and an aging workforce. This document presents a KISTEP analysis of S&T major graduates' employment status from 2019-2022 to provide evidence-based policy recommendations. The study, now completed, revealed that 46.7% of S&T graduates were in non-S&T jobs in 2022 and identified an increasing demand for STEM-based professional roles, leading to proposed policy shifts focusing on re-skilling, career development for middle-aged workers, and adapting education to new job demands.
