Summary

India faces a significant challenge with its energy data, which is fragmented across various state and national agencies, suffers from inconsistent formats and definitions, and contains substantial gaps. To address this, an Inter-Ministerial Committee was established under the India-US Strategic Clean Energy Partnership. This committee proposes standardizing definitions, methodologies for data collection and validation, and exploring the establishment of a centralized energy data management agency to improve data quality and accessibility. The recommendations are currently planned for implementation.
