Summary

The dissolution of group ranches in Kenya, driven by new land tenure laws, poses a significant threat to wildlife conservation and traditional pastoralism due to increasing land privatization and incompatible land-use practices. To address this, the Eselenkei Group Ranch developed a Landuse and Subdivision Plan (LSP) to guide the allocation of individual land titles while ensuring sustainable natural resource management and livelihoods through strategic zoning. The LSP has been approved and its implementation, which includes designated zones for settlement, agriculture, grazing, and wildlife conservation areas leased to Big Life Foundation, is overseen by the Eselenkei Board of Trustees and Cooperative Society.
