The Indian Model of SDG Localisation
Summary
India aims to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, facing the challenge of effectively localizing these global goals across its vast and diverse federal structure, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic. NITI Aayog leads a 'whole of government' and 'whole of society' approach, engaging states, Union Territories, districts, and local communities in the planning, budgeting, implementation, and robust monitoring of SDGs. This report documents the Indian model of SDG localization, sharing experiences and lessons learned to guide other countries, building on continuous efforts since the first SDG India Index was published in 2018.
