Summary

The UK's heat pump market is underdeveloped, posing a challenge to achieving the 2050 net-zero emissions target, with only 98,000 installations in 2024. To accelerate decarbonization, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero proposes to amend the Clean Heat Market Mechanism (CHMM) by increasing the heat pump installation target for boiler manufacturers from 6% to 8-10% for the scheme's second year (2026/27). This amendment is currently planned and subject to consultation.
