Summary

Kenya's delegation at COP26 highlighted the severe impacts of climate change, particularly drought, devastating lives in Africa, and expressed deep concern over the failure of developed nations to meet climate finance commitments and reduce emissions sufficiently to keep the 1.5°C target alive. Kenya advocated for urgent deep cuts in emissions, substantial new financing for mitigation, adaptation, and loss and damage, and the establishment of a robust support package for climate-vulnerable regions. While endorsing the Glasgow Climate Pact as a positive step, the delegation expressed disappointment over the lack of a dedicated loss and damage financing facility and emphasized the critical need for action to restore broken trust and deliver on pledges.
