Summary

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment in South Africa is undertaking research to better understand and manage the environmental interactions of aquaculture. The approach involves five key research projects covering benthic impacts, effluent impacts from land-based farms, environmental characteristics of aquaculture zones, and the identification and prediction of harmful algal blooms. These initiatives are currently in progress to support sustainable aquaculture development.
