Modeling COVID-19 Impacts on Prison Population

Summary

This document describes a collaborative project in Illinois to model the impact of COVID-19 on prison populations and the spread of disease between correctional facilities and surrounding communities. Argonne National Laboratory developed a dynamic systems model and simulation capabilities to analyze population flows within the criminal justice system. The project, completed within the scope of the CRADA, successfully advanced the conceptualization and initial development of this model to help understand the complex interactions and inform resource allocation.
