SAFE Accommodation Worker Housing for Manufacturing Growth

Summary

India's manufacturing sector faces a significant challenge due to insufficient worker housing near industrial areas, leading to high attrition and low productivity. To counter this, NITI Aayog proposes a SAFE Accommodation scheme, facilitating rental housing for industrial workers through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, bolstered by Viability Gap Funding (VGF) from the central government. This initiative, announced in the Union Budget 2024, is currently in the process of institutionalization with a working group formulating its scalable framework.
