This project addressed the challenge of accurately measuring the real-world thermal performance improvement of homes retrofitted through the UK's Green Homes Grant, as traditional EPC models tend to overestimate energy savings. It employed Smart Meter Enabled Thermal Efficiency Rating (SMETER) methods to assess the in-use Heat Transfer Coefficient (HTC) in a large sample of retrofitted homes. The project is completed and found that SMETERs provide a more realistic assessment of thermal performance compared to EPC models, suggesting that SMETERs are a promising tool for large-scale retrofit evaluation and policy support.
