The European Union is addressing the significant energy consumption of electrical and electronic household and office equipment in off mode, standby mode, and networked standby, which was estimated at 59.4 TWh in 2015 and projected to slow in reduction without intervention. This regulation establishes updated and expanded ecodesign requirements for these modes to reduce energy waste and greenhouse gas emissions across the EU. The initiative is currently in progress, with the new requirements replacing previous regulations.
