Critically endangered Mountain Bongo and Black Rhinoceros populations in Kenya have significantly declined. To address this, a phased sanctuary is proposed within the Mucheene and Marania forest blocks in Meru County, aiming to repatriate 20-25 Mountain Bongos by 2022 as part of Phase I. The project is currently in the planning stage, undergoing an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment.
