Local governments in Western Australia are working to minimize Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) charging during peak electricity demand periods to optimize energy usage, reduce costs, and ensure grid stability. The Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA) has coordinated 22 local governments to deploy 145 BEVs and 105 chargers, implementing strategies like site-specific solar PV, bulk renewable energy procurement, load management, and smart charging schedules. This project is currently in progress, having successfully rolled out the vehicles and chargers, and is now sharing lessons learned on demand management to guide future electrification efforts.
