To address this, the "Act for Partial Amendment of the Act on the Rationalization of Energy Use, etc. to Establish a Stable Energy Supply and Demand Structure" was enacted on May 13, 2022. This legislation broadens the definition of "energy" to include non-fossil sources, mandates mid-to-long term plans for non-fossil energy conversion, redefines electricity demand optimization, and strengthens the roles of related organizations for resource security and new energy technologies.
