PLANO DE AÇÕES ESTRATÉGICAS (PAE) PARA O SISTEMA AQUÍFERO GUARANI 2025
Summary
The Guarani Aquifer System, one of the world's largest freshwater reserves shared by Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay, faces increasing demand, necessitating coordinated and sustainable transboundary management. The PPM-Guarani project (2022-2025), funded by the Global Environment Facility and supported by UNESCO, aims to improve the aquifer's long-term sustainability by executing an updated Strategic Action Plan (PAE 2025). This plan comprises 8 programs and 25 strategic actions, building on a previous plan from 2009 and incorporating new realities, including climate change impacts. The project is currently in progress, focusing on establishing regional cooperation mechanisms, developing a pilot monitoring network, and continuously updating the strategic action plan through participatory processes.
