Modeling and Analysis of Clean Energy and Storage Technologies

Summary

The challenge addressed was the need for advanced modeling tools to accurately evaluate and optimize integrated clean energy systems, including photovoltaic (PV) generation, battery storage, and fuel cells. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), in collaboration with Southern Company Services, Inc., developed custom scripts and enhanced the public System Advisor Model (SAM) with a fuel-cell model capable of integrating PV and battery storage, and automated dispatch algorithms for DC-connected battery systems. This cooperative research and development project is now completed, providing valuable tools for the clean energy sector.
