Summary

South Australia anticipates a significant increase in electricity demand by 2050 due to widespread electrification, posing a challenge to network stability and costs if Consumer Energy Resources (CER) are not managed flexibly. The Energy Masters Project addresses this by equipping 500 households with Home Energy Management Systems and smart appliances to enable flexible, customer-centric electrification and integrate CER into the grid. The project is in progress, with over 100 installations completed, and is identifying critical lessons regarding interoperability, household participation, tariff innovation, and industry readiness to inform future large-scale deployments.
