Summary

South Korea faces a significant challenge with the spread of mis- and disinformation, increasingly exacerbated by generative AI and deepfake technologies, hindering policy implementation and increasing social costs. In response, the government is adopting insights from the OECD's nine good practice principles for public communication on mis- and disinformation. This includes establishing consistent, cross-governmental response principles, investing in R&D for rapid identification and response, and fostering joint public-private efforts to analyze, counter, and prevent science and technology-related false information. The overarching strategy is in progress, with specific initiatives outlined in the 5th Basic Plan for Science and Technology.
