The United States faces the challenge of decarbonizing its building stock, which accounts for significant energy use and CO2 emissions, requiring a dramatic increase in renovation rates that current labor-intensive construction practices cannot achieve. The Department of Energy's Advanced Building Construction (ABC) Initiative is addressing this by promoting industrialized, replicable, and technologically driven approaches for new construction and renovations, aiming for a decarbonized building stock by 2050.
